Key activities
Martyn Jones is a member of the social work program team in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning. Previously, he was Director of the Field Education Unit in the same School. Prior to his appointment at RMIT, Martyn was Director of the social work program at Deakin University.
Martyn has been involved in social work education for several years, both in England and Australia. He has served on many committees, particularly in the areas of ethics, equity and access. With a professional background in social work, Martyn has maintained an interest in practice issues and the impact of organisational and policy contexts. He has a long standing interest in practice-based education, which is reflected in his areas of research activity and educational development.

- Course Coordination for History and Trends in Social Work
- Convening social work field education integration seminars
- Building and sustaining partnership arrangements with human services organisations
- Contributing to university-wide policy and practice in work integrated learning

Research and Scholarship
Research interests
Martyn ’s main research interests are in the areas of professional knowledge and learning. His studies include: contemporary contexts of social work; practice research; work integrated learning; critical reflection in professional practice.
Martyn has provided consultation on professional supervision and the development of learning environments for professional and organisational development.
Current research
Martyn has particular educational interests in: learning across professional boundaries; assessment of complex learning outcomes; and collaborative approaches to work integrated learning.
He is presently engaged in the following research projects:
- The Use of Well-being in the Evaluation of Community Service Programs
- Mapping Services Supporting Young Mothers at Risk
- The Impact of Professional Accreditation on Student Assessment in Higher Education
