Accounting students network with employers

More than 80 students from RMIT University’s School of Accounting attended a Cooperative Education Employers’ Fair recently.
The annual event is aimed at assisting Bachelor of Business (Professional Accountancy) students who are preparing applications for cooperative work placements in their third year of study.
The Cooperative Education Program is one of the best examples of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) offered by RMIT.
The program allows business students enrolled in four-year undergraduate degrees to obtain a year of work experience during their third year of study, which is invaluable when competing in the job market.
More than 20 organisations took part in the fair, providing the perfect opportunity for students to learn about different career opportunities and to network with potential employers.
"While employers want students with sound analytic and technical skills, they also want students who have strong social skills and are able to fit well into a team environment,” Bronwyn Jones, Industry Placement Coordinator, said.
“This year, we held mock interviews as part of the Fair which allowed students to practise their interview and communication skills. Independent recruitment staff and RMIT academics were on hand to offer helpful advice and tips.”
All employers who took part in the event are offering cooperative education positions in 2012.
