A musical welcome for students …

Thousands of students were welcomed to RMIT University with music from professional DJs and exciting student entertainment at the University's Big "O" Days for Orientation this year, at Brunswick, Bundoora and City campuses.

DJs spinning the beats at Brunswick included Larissa, DJ Prequal and Airwolf; at Bundoora chilled sounds came from DJs Zac, DJ Prequal and Smoking Toddlers; and in the City DJs Zac, DJ Prequal, Deacon Rose, Ajax and Ladyfingers provided the musical back beat.

RMIT student groups including dance group Funkadelic, RMIT Cheerleaders and RMIT Music student concert band provided great entertainment for new and continuing RMIT students at City campus Big "O" Day.

Director, Student Services at RMIT, Fiona Ellis said that Orientation provided students with a great opportunity to meet other students and find out about life at university.

"Students can take part in some fun activities, enjoy the entertainment and events on offer and get their studies and university experience off to a good start," Ms Ellis said.

"Orientation at RMIT is varied and inclusive. It helps to build a sense of connection with the University, the campuses, the facilities and the staff."

At Orientation, students join in, ask questions, explore their campus and make connections with staff and other students.

At the Big "O" Days there were demonstrations from RMIT clubs, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and World Tae Kwon Do Federation, as well as a diverse variety of club stalls for students to find out about.

RMIT University Student Union and RMIT Link clubs range from politics to religion, from international students and countries to textiles, from Rubik's cubes to sporting groups, and everything in between.

Other RMIT facilities and services on show included City Fitness, the Student Hubs, Short Courses, RMIT Gallery, Education Abroad, SYN student radio, and RMIT SEEDS, which featured a social enterprise chill-out corner with music and fairtrade, organic coffee.

As well as the Big "O" Days, RMIT Orientation included a VCE Welcome lunch BBQ on the City campus and TAFE Welcome breakfasts at Brunswick and City campuses; there are also Postgraduate welcomes happening later in March at Bundoora and City campuses.

New students also received a handy RMIT student diary and a credit cardsized guide to student services, to make it easier to make the most of their time at RMIT.
