Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is an activity or program that integrates academic learning with its application in the workplace. With our WIL, you get the chance to combine theory with practice in a workplace environment. WIL is offered in many programs. It takes many forms, including:

  • Work experience such as
    • Paid co-operative education placements
      Be an employee of the organisation (in Australia or overseas) and receive a wage, for two semesters or up to 12 months
    • Voluntary placements
      Gain unpaid work experience and on-the-job organisational training often in a not-for-profit or community based organisation for one course or up to one semester
    • Professional skills program
      A combination of skills training and workplace learning which helps you to develop professional skills
    • Industry projects
      This may be a research project; organisational problem solving project or any other form of substantial project on which you work with industry
    • Work placements enhance work skills and employability and they can be a prescribed part of professional accreditation in some fields of study.
  • International work placements The RMIT International Experience and Research Program (RIIERP) enables almost 200 RMIT students a year to carry out vocational training and research projects at world-class businesses and institutions in Europe, Asia and the USA.
