Professor Bouguettaya came to RMIT from a senior research role at CSIRO. He also has an extensive publications record, significant academic experience in the USA, and holds adjunct professorial positions at four prominent Australian universities, as well as being an IEEE fellow.
RMIT has been at the forefront of computer science education since the early 1960s; pioneering some of Australia’s first computing courses, while forging a reputation for research excellence in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Collaborating with blue chip industry partners and maintaining a strong research presence, the School of Computer Science and Information Technology is one of the country’s largest and most industry-focused ICT program providers.

RMIT’s reputation in the field of ICT continues to rise:
- Ranked in the top group of eight Australian universities for Computer Science and Information Systems (QS World University Rankings).
- Rated in the top 100 universities worldwide for Computer Science and Information Systems (QS World University Rankings).
- In the field of Information Retrieval research, RMIT is rated 1st in Asia and Oceania (and ranked 12th globally) over the past 5 years (Microsoft Academic Search).
- Rated “Above World Standard” (ERA 4) for research in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing (0801) and Information Systems (0806) by the Australian Research Council.

We are one of the largest ICT schools in Australia, with a rich tradition of 'hands-on' teaching that gives students the opportunity to mix course content and practical experience. This approach, coupled with our close involvement with industry, produces graduates who are highly regarded in the workplace. Our graduates are employed as computing professionals and entrepreneurs in fields such as commerce, business, scientific research, engineering and government.
With a wide range of programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, we are also one of the largest providers of online and distance learning in Australia, through our affiliation with Open Universities Australia.

School seminar series – all welcome
Come and listen to the regular school seminars on a range of ICT issues, research findings and more. As well as academics and research students at the school, speakers also include visiting academics and experts in the field from other universities and institutions in Australia and overseas.
Join RMIT Programming Club
High School students are welcome to join the RMIT student members of RMIT Programming Club, which provides a stimulating, cooperative environment where students can interact and learn from each other by solving various programming problems. Each year we try to enter teams into regional programming competitions as part of the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC).
